Community Support Services offers services that increase the ability for older adults to remain at home, maintain independence and continue family and community relationships.
Adult Day Program
This service provides programming in a group setting, outside the home, for older adults who are living in the community, including those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The program is offered Tuesday through Friday
Congregate Dining Program
This service provides a meal in a social setting for people to interact and meet others. The program is available in Kenora (Benidickson Court, Parkview and Gardner) and Sioux Lookout (Sioux Towers). Advance notice is required for bookings and cancellations.
Home Help
This service provides light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting and washing floors that can be undertaken on a regular basis or only occasionally.
Home Maintenance
This service provides lawn care such as grass cutting, raking and small gardens and heavy housecleaning.
Meals on Wheels
This service helps provides individuals with a hot-meal delivered to their door who are physically unable to prepare meals. Advance notice is required.
Visiting Hospice Services
We provide trained volunteers to offer companionship and support to individuals and families with a chronic or life-limiting illness.
Personal Response Service
This service that gives individuals the confidence to continue to live independently in their own home by ensuring that help is only a button push away. To call for help, you simply press the Personal Help Button you wear as a pendant or a wristband. The Personal Help Button activates a small in-home communicator that automatically dials the Lifeline Response Centre.
Supportive Housing
This program is designed to help people live independently in their own apartments. The focus is on promoting mental and physical health along with 24/7 personal support. The program provides assistance with personal care, light housekeeping, laundry and medication reminders, security checks and light meal preparation. Supportive Housing is offered in Kenora (Benidickson, Gardner and Parkview) and Sioux Lookout (Sioux Towers).
Transportation – User fee
A support service that provides transportation to medical appointments, wellness programs for individuals who meet the eligibility criteria. 48-hours advance notice is required to ensure adequate time and availability for transportation arrangements. Medical appointments are a priority.
